LENS & FRAMES

1. WHAT KIND OF PROTECTION DO YOUR LENSES HAVE?

Overexposure to ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, retinal damage and other eye problems, so protection from UV rays is an essential function of sunglasses, all our sunglasses offer UV400 which blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers (this covers all of UVA and UVB rays).

We use lenses with category 3, with 8-17% VLT. This is the measure of how much light your sunglass lens lets through to your eye and can be expressed as a percentage, therefore a VLT of 1% means very dark glasses and a VLT of 100% means all the light is getting through and the lens is therefore a ‘clear lens’.

The category 3 provides extra protection from both visible and UV light. These lenses will usually only allow less than 20% of visible light to penetrate the lens. This means that they will block out 80%+ of light.

2. WHAT ARE POLARIZED LENSES?

They are lenses that reduce/remove glare caused by strong sunlight on flat horizontal surfaces such as the road or the sea. In addition they reduce eye stress because the strongest solar rays are blocked. They provide greater safety for outdoor sports because eliminating glare naturally increases the contrast. They also increase the perception of colors, they appear more bold and bright.

Reducing glare, reducing eye stress, and enhancing contrast thus contribute to a clearer vision.

3. DO YOU HAVE MIRRORED LENSES? ARE THEY ANY DIFFERENT FROM THE REGULAR ONES?

Yes, we offer many mirrored lenses with different colors.

Mirror-coated lenses limit the amount of light entering your eyes, so you’re more comfortable.

Mirror coatings (also called flash coatings) are highly reflective coatings applied to the front surface of sunglass lenses to reduce the amount of light entering the eye. This makes them especially beneficial for activities in very bright conditions, such as snow skiing on a sunny day.

4. DO YOU MAKE PRESCRIPTION LENSES?

Yes, we do! We offer clear and sun lenses with prescription.

5. WHAT KIND OF SUN RX LENSES DO YOU HAVE?

Besides prescription sun lenses we also have two kinds of transition lenses:

Transitions® Xtractive®
Ideal solution for those who spend a lot of time in bright sunlight.
Slight coloration in interior spaces for greater comfort.
Activate moderately inside the car.
High blackout on the outside
Block 100% UVA and UVB rays
Filter 2x more harmful blue light inside and 8x more outside

Transitions® DriveWear®
Adaptive sunglass lenses for superior driving experience.
Polarized sun lenses that reduce glare and optimize color contrast.
Color and darkness automatically adjust to changing light and weather conditions behind the windshield and outdoors.
Ideal for both driving and outside wear during the day.

6. SHOULD I USE SUNGLASSES IN THE WINTER?

Our eyes are exposed to UV rays not only on sunny days but also on cloud and rainy days.

Overexposure to ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, retinal damage and other eye problems, so protection from UV rays is an essential function of sunglasses. It’s important that you use them all year round.

7. I CAN’T CHOOSE THE COLORS OF MY LENSES. THE DIFFERENT COLORS HAVE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS?

Grey lenses (our BLACKOUT reference) are the most common sunglass lens color because they don’t change the value of color but are dark enough for bright sunny days while not so dark that they impair vision.

Optimal sunglasses lens color for:

  • general sunglass use
  • aid in preventing eye fatigue
  • provide true color perception
  • ideal for scenes to be viewed in their most natural state
  • any outdoor activity (hunting, golfing, visiting the beach, or even yard work)

Brown lenses (our AMBAR reference) do more than give the wearer a sepia outlook and a warm color fashion – they are great enhancers for vision. With the amber tint, much of the color spectrum’s hazy end is blocked and your vision has more contrast, giving you crisp vision and allowing you to make out shapes more clearly. Optimal sunglasses lens color for:

  • early morning, late afternoon, or cloudy, hazy, foggy daytime weather
  • enhancing depth perception
  • reducing glare
  • living in areas with changeable weather patterns
  • any activity in which focus is against green grass or blue skies
  • any sport where distance needs to be judged (golf, tennis, fishing, baseball, hunting, soccer, football, boating, or racquetball)

If you are considering reflective mirror lenses, it’s important to pay attention to two things: the color of reflective coating on the outer surface of the lens and the base tint color of the lens (the color of the lens without coating). Mirror lenses in general greatly reduce glare, are stylish and often trending. Mirror lenses are ideal for:

  • any activity with the possibility of high-glare (skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, boating, fishing, sailing, any other winter or water sports, and driving or hiking)
  • enhanced contrast
  • reduction in glare, during all outdoor activities and in bright light conditions
  • being trendy
  • playing or watching any sport
  • aiding in seeing contours
  • great in misty, foggy, or snowy conditions
  • reducing overall brightness
  • preserving normal color balances
  • rain or shine but ideal for clear, bright days
  • visual acuity
  • improved contrast
  • fashion-forward athletes
  • improving color perception
  • sharpening details

8. WHAT COLOR DO YOU SEE WITH DIFFERENT COLOR MIRROR LENSES?

SILVER — Same colors.

GOLD — Warmer colors (brown).

SUNSET — Colder colors (blue).

SKY — Warmer colors (orange).

FOREST — Colder colors (purple).

COSMIC — Same colors.

9. WHAT IS THE MATERIAL USED IN YOUR SUNGLASSES?

Our frames are all made in polycarbonate which is a light, flexible and tough plastic. Polycarbonate have become the standard for safety glasses, sports goggles and children’s eyewear.

Pros:
  • In combination with polycarbonate lenses, this material offers optimum impact resistance and eye protection.
  • It is suitable for sportswear.
  • excellent physical properties
  • excellent toughness
  • very good heat resistance

Our lenses are also made in polycarbonate which makes them much more impact-resistant than regular glass and plastic lenses because these lightweight lens materials are relatively “soft” — which means they can absorb energy without lens fracturing.

Our polarized lenses are made with CR-39® which is half as heavy as glass, far less likely to shatter, and optical quality nearly as good as glass.

10. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLYCARBONATE AND CR-39®?

Polycarbonate lenses are more shatter resistant than CR-39® and are also thinner therefore lighter.

CR 39® is the most common optical polymer in the ophthalmic field. It refers to the type of plastic that is used to make prescription lenses.

11. WHAT KIND OF HINGES DO YOUR SUNGLASSES HAVE?

Our sunglasses have Spring Hinges (or “flex hinges”). These hinges are equipped with a small spring that affords the arms a greater range of movement and does not limit them to the traditional, 90 degree angle. These hinges provide greater comfort for the wearer and are more able to withstand everyday use.

Spring Hinges are better for physical activity. Due to their snug fit, Spring Hinge frames are more likely to stay on while running or jogging, which makes them a good choice for people with an active lifestyle or for children’s glasses.

12. HOW DO I KNOW IF YOUR SUNGLASSES WILL FIT MY FACE?

Please check out the product dimensions listed on the individual product pages. We suggest that you compare these dimensions with other sunglasses that you have and that suit you.
